英語において使用頻度の最も高い名詞は「time」だそうだ。

ロンドン──英オックスフォード辞典によると、実際に使われている英語の「名詞」の中で、最もよく使われているのは「time」──。同辞典が２１世紀に入ってから始めた「コーパス」の分析で明らかになった。
「コーパス」とは、実際に書かれたり話されたりした文章をバランス良く集めて分類したデータベース。各国語で構築が進んでいる。
オックスフォードのコーパスによると、英単語全体で最も使われているのは定冠詞の「the」。次いで「be」、前置詞の「to」と「of」が続き、その後に不定冠詞の「a」、さらに「in」「that」「have」「I」となっている。

LONDON, England (AP) -- For those who think the world is obsessed with "time," an Oxford dictionary added support to the theory in announcing that the word is the most often used noun in the English language.
"The" is the most commonly used word overall, followed by "be," "to," "of," and, "a," "in," "that," "have," and "I," according to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary.

最も使用頻度が高い英語名詞が「時間」(time)であったというのは、アメリカ人が「時は金なり(time is money.)」を実際に行動に反映させているからだろう。日本語で「時」は上位に来るだろうか。
